Oats…A superfood when it comes to watching your waistline and being healthy. Oats are whole grain, have heart healthy fats, lower cholesterol, and are full of fiber, which will keep you fuller longer, hence likely for you to eat less.
There are so many ways to eat oats…to start, make sure they are NOT in the packages or have added flavor…those just contain loads of sugar!
Yes, you can make oats on the stovetop but for busy people like you and me, stick them in the microwave for 2 minutes uncovered. Perfection every time!
Then its time to get creative! You can add a flavored protein power to make it a sweet treat, and/or peanut butter (watch your portions) and sugar free jelly to make it like you are a kid again, fresh fruit to keep it simple and healthy, or one of my favorites..Cook scrambled eggs separately and then add to the oats and salt them up! So good!
Oats aren’t just for breakfast – they make a great snack at anytime!
You can also grind the oats to make an oat flour and replace white flour in muffins, cakes and PANCAKES!
One of my favorite, healthy PANCAKE recipes:
3/4 cup oat flour
1/4 cup egg whites (or 1 egg)
1/4 cup any kind of milk (almond milk is a healthy choice)
1/4 cup of applesauce or greek yogurt
1 tsp baking powder
1 tbsp Stevia (or sugar if you must!)
***For a more protein-packed pancake, change oat flour to 1/2 cup and add 1/2 scoop vanilla or cinnamon protein powder.
Top with fruit, a FEW chocolate chips, whatever you fancy – and sugar free syrup. A quick, healthy, delicious meal. Let me know what you think after you make it!
