Popcorn is one of my favorite snacks. It’s is a high volume food, meaning you get a lot for a little amount of calories, especially if popped with little or no oil.
A quarter cup of air popped kernels yields 213 calories, 8 grams of fiber and 6 grams of protein, meaning it’s very filling! It also contains whole grains, making it naturally high in many nutrients. Who doesn’t love a snack that is yummy and heart healthy? Popcorn has Vitamin B1, B3, B6, Iron, Magnesium, Phosphorus, Potassium, Zin, Copper and Manganese.
Microwave popcorn, movie theater popcorn and certain toppings (think caramel corn) add loads of fat so beware, not all popcorn is created equal.
Instead of grabbing the greasy chips, try reaching for healthy, air popped popcorn or popcorn cooked with little oil instead.
It makes a very satisfying snack!
