Tips For A “Healthier” Halloween

Halloween and healthy are like ying and yang. There is no way around it, there simply is no “healthy” halloween.  But, if you know me and my motto, you know I say “You gotta live” too! So, I’ve drummed up some great waist friendly information to pass along to help you get through the day without the scale budging.

First and foremost, make sure you eat normal, healthy meals throughout the day. Focus on lean protein shake like grilled chicken, fish and shrimp, egg whites, Greek yogurt, turkey, tuna fish and cottage cheese. Save your fats for the candy later!

Eating throughout the day will help stabilze blood sugar levels, have you feeling full and satiated, and more likely not to binge all night on candy.  Planning is KEY! Make sure you have healthy snacks on hand.

Second, pick ONE (ok, lets be realistic) TWO, but THAT’S IT.  Savor the candy and go in knowing that that is all you are allowing yourself to eat.

Third, collect the wrappers. That’s right. When you see that pile adding up you will have second thoughts about adding more to your pile. Better yet, write down all the fat and calories as you collect each wrapper. When you see it in writing it’s a much clearer picture of whats going in your mouth and to that belly of yours!

Fourth, have a hot cup of sugar free hot chocolate or something of the like to drink. It will stave off the sensation to reach for the candy bowl.

Fifth, DON’T buy candy that you like. Then the temptation is not there from the start.

Sixth, chew on gum or suck on a mint. Chocolate won’t taste so good after that.

Seventh, make your OWN healthy treats! Lots of ideas on my  RECIPES  tab!

If you do indulge, here is a list of candy (all mini or fun size) that is all under 100 calories, 10 grams of sugar and 6 grams of fat! No, I’m not tricking you! I’m allowing you to have a treat! The holidays do not have to be all or nothing. The more you can educate yourself the better off you’ll be!  Enjoy!
