Why am I not losing weight?

FullSizeRender 2

Have you tried everything and can’t seem to lose weight?  Whether it’s numbers on the scale, inches from your waist, or just wanting your jeans feeling a bit looser, there are 3 SOLID reasons why your body may not be able to budge.

You’re not eating enough
I know, you are probably saying that it’s simply not possible, but not eating enough can prevent you from burning fat.  It places a major stress on the body and your body will hold on to every last morsel you feed it if it’s not enough.  I’m not telling you to go out and eat whatever you want, but you should re-assess your macronutrient intake and make sure you are getting an adequate amount of calories.  In other words, it MATTERS how much protein, fat and carbohydrates you are eating.

You’re not training, you’re only doing cardio
Weight lifting is essential for fat loss.  If you have only been doing cardio on the treadmill, elliptical or stair master, going for a run, or doing cardio based classes and haven’t seen much change, it is time to re-asses your workout regime.  Adding weight training to your fitness program will increase your metabolism, build more lean muscle and therefore change your body composition and will in turn make your body burn fat rather than muscle for fuel.  Adding HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) to your workout will also give you more bang for your buck rather than steady state cardio if this is all you currently do.

You’re not eating enough protein
Most people underestimate the amount of protein they should be consuming.  Eating an adequate amount of protein is crucial for improving your body composition and increasing your fat metabolism amongst other things such as hair, skin, bones and healthy aging.

Questions?  Need to get a better idea of what YOU should be consuming and how you should be training?  I’m happy to help.  Either comment below or shoot me an email for further assessment on your individual body.
